On a very emotional and happy day, I met Civil Rights leader John Lewis. The first time I met Senator Lewis was in law school. I told him he was one of my heroes. I met him many more times, including during my inauguration.

Civil rights has come a long way, from Martin Luther King Jr. to the George Floyd protests. But, we still have a long way to go. When President Obama was elected, I could not believe my eyes. He was the first black man to become president. But, that is not the stopping point. We must continue on and stop systemic racism in America!

Along time ago on a day called Bloody Sunday civil rights activist John Lewis marched with Martin Luther King Jr. The police fractured John Lewis's skull. John Lewis said: "I thought I was going to die in Selma." After Bloody Sunday, President Lyndon Johnson gave black people the right to vote.

When I was young I marched on the Edmund Pettus Bridge fighting for the right to vote. Ever since then It has become a sort of holy place for me. I go there every year and remember all my fallen sisters and brothers. This place will have protests long after me and I want my spirt to stay here cheering them on.

This is me and my father Senator Lewis together in 2004 at one of our old houses. I was 37 years old and I had a hip hop band. My father was at a different stage of his life though. He was 64 years old when we took that picture.

During my marches with Martin Luther King Jr., I was arrested many times. These are some pictures from going to jail. I am not ashamed nor angry about these photos. I am actually very proud. Never be ashamed about making good trouble.

The Daily quote is from John Lewis: "Never, ever be afraid to make some noise and get in good trouble, necessary trouble." During protests, John Lewis and Martin Luther King Jr. got in a lot of trouble but for the right reasons.

My name is John Lewis and I was born on February 21,1940 in Atlanta, GA. I fought for civil rights with Martin Luther King, Jr. and will keep fighting right the injustice in our world.

These are pictures of John Lewis and I made them a meme because it shows how I start my day so confident and end it so tired out.
